Here we go again!
It has been more than nine months since I last posted to this blog. A lot has happened in that time...both good and not so good things. I have had surgery on my scalp to remove the basal cell carcinoma that was discovered shortly before we left for El Salvador last year and, with the exception of a big scar, there is nothing that remains of that problem. Warren, on the other hand, has experienced a heart "incident" that resulted in a two angioplasties, a stent in his left descending anterior artery, and a boatload of medications to take daily. He has completed 10 weeks of cardiac rehab and has slowly been regaining his energy with the help of medication adjustments each month. The "invincible man" has had to learn to live with the knowledge of his human frailty and regain the confidence that he once had. So, when the subject of teaching again in the village of Munoces was raised, we found ourselves looking at a different set of issues than we had a year ago. Having taught there for 3 weeks last year we were aware of the energy and stress involved in such a project. The 3-hour commute each day, the heat, and mountainous terrain seemed a little more daunting than it had a year ago. Were we up to the task? How would we incorporate the "heart healthy diet" that we try to maintain? What if something happened and we had to rely on the medical facilities in El Salvador? Well...the answers to those questions may be answered in the next weeks. We have made the commitment to return to El Salvador and teach English in the village of Munoces again this year. We will be gone about a month by the time we arrive a few days before we begin teaching, teach for 3 weeks, and save a few days to visit friends in San Salvador before we return. We are busy preparing lesson plans and trying not to worry about all the "what ifs". Life is meant to be lived and lived with courage so....bring on the next adventure!
